  • Define populations for your data by drawing gates around them.

The drawing tools Rectangle, Ellipse, Polygon, and Quadrant are for non-histogram types of plots; Split and Range are for histograms.

Use Select to click on the plot and select a gate. Double-click to make a population the "Active Population".

Polygon: click once on the plot for each corner of the polygon. To close the polygon, click back on the starting dot or double-click the last corner and a line will be drawn to the starting dot.

File Use the drop-down menu to select one file from all available files, or use the arrow buttons > and < to scroll through the files one at a time. The |< and >| buttons take you to the first and last file in the list.

Active Population Use the drop-down menu to select a population from any you've created, or use the "Up" and "Down" buttons to scroll through the populations one at a time.

Active Compensation Select which compensation is being applied to the plot. We recommend using "File Compensation", if available.

Plot Settings Click this button to get a popup that controls the way the plot is displayed in this gating area. NOTE: you need to press Enter after you change a value to make it stick.

Populations: Manage Click on this button to get a popup matrix of populations. Use the checkboxes to control which populations are included in others.

Populations: View Click on this button to get a tree structure of populations.

Y Select the channel displayed on the plot for the Y axis from the drop-down menu. Select "Counts" to get a histogram plot. To change the scale, use the "Plot Settings" button.

X Select the channel displayed on the plot for the X axis from the drop-down menu. To change the scale, use the "Plot Settings" button.

List of gates All the gates you create will be listed here. Click on a gate to see it on the plot. The axis channels will display what you used when you created the gate. Note: clicking here does NOT change the active population.

Selected gate: Name If you click on a gate in the list or on the plot, the name will appear in this text field. You can edit the name here. Press Enter to finish editing.

Selected gate: Global/Stand Alone Gates are global by default. If you want to create a stand-alone gate--in other words, a gate that applies only to this file--select the "Stand Alone" button. You can then move the gate without affecting where it is drawn for the other files.

Points Click this button to see a popup of the X and Y values for the points for the selected gate.

Check Gate Click this button to see a page of plots showing the selected gate on all available files.
