  • This is a walkthrough of how to load your Cytobank illustration to a new web page to facilitate printing and how to share your illustration with other researchers.

Open an Illustration in Print View

If you're not already there, log in to Cytobank, open your experiment, and select one of your saved illustrations. When you're asked if you want to use the saved illustration as your working illustration, click "OK".

    1. Make sure that your illustration is set up the way you want.
    2. Click "Print View". Your illustration will appear in a new window (or a new tab, depending on how your browser is set up).
    3. Take a look at the new tab/page.
          a.    You'll notice the QR code black-and-white square near the top of the page.
          b.    Also, the plots are now ordered vertically instead of horizontally.
          c.    The illustration includes your gating hierarchy.
          d.    It also has a link back to the experiment summary page in the upper left-hand corner, as well as some information about the illustration author (in this case, you), the primary researcher (you), the date/time when the illustration was printed, and when it was updated.
    4.     e.    It also has its own URL--this is now the permanent URL for your illustration in Cytobank. Note: if you accidentally close this window without copying down the URL, you can get it back by re-printing the illustration from the experiment summary page. A new URL is generated only when you do another save (for example, if you changed your illustration in some way and wanted to save it

Note: if you print an illustration that you haven't saved (which you might want to do to see how an illustration is coming along), it's a print of your working illustration--which might change as you go along. So if you want to have a URL that points to a stable illustration, save it first.

    Share your Illustration

One use of your printed illustration is to share it with another researcher. The researcher has to have access to your experiment, so let's practice setting that up.

    1. Go to your experiment summary page (from the illustration page, click on the title of the experiment in the upper-left corner of the page).
    2. In the "Access Information" area, select "Joe Researcher" (or anyone you wish) from the "Add Full Access" drop-down. Click "Add User".
    3. You'll see the name appear under yours in "Full Access". There's an "[x]" next to it; clicking that will remove that person from the full access list. (Don't do that just now.)
    4. Go back to the illustration page that was created when you printed it. Copy the URL from the browser address field.
    5. Now you can send email to the person to whom you just gave access and give him or her the URL; s/he will be able to see your illustration.  You can also do this by clicking on "Share illustration" link in the print view.

Note: if you've shared your experiment, the people who have access can also view your illustrations from the experiment summary page.

PDFs: Another way to share your illustration is to print the illustration page as a PDF.  Click on the PDF link next to a saved illustration in the experiment summary page.

You can scan the QR code from a printed illustration to retrieve the permanent URL.
