A working illustration is a snapshot of the most recent changes made to your plots and file annotations. If you click on an illustration, it is set to be your "working illustration." Any changes you make are saved in your "working illustration". Another way to think of this is as the illustration you are not finished making. Once you have completed your illustration, you can save it under a different name in the "Save Illustration As" section of the Illustration page.
The list of illustrations you have saved is shown in the experiment summary page along with your working illustration. Clicking on print view or PDF next to an illustration will result in the corresponding action. However, if you click on edit, you will get an alert that asks if you want to make this illustration your working illustration. If you say OK, then any changes you make from then on will be to the working illustration, not to the saved illustration.
Each user with full access to that experiment will have his/her own working illustration.
